Renovating the Entire First Floor
This phased renovation transformed the first floor of a compact Arlington Cape into an open, highly functional living space designed for a growing family. The project included relocating the kitchen to the rear of the home, removing walls to create a continuous living, dining, and kitchen area, converting the former kitchen into a home office, and adding a new front living room with a gas fireplace. During construction, previously unused attic space was incorporated to create a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, dramatically increasing volume and natural light. Custom architectural details—including repeating arches and a repurposed mantel—add character, while the reconfigured layout improves flow, storage, and access to a new outdoor patio.
