A Kitchen, Pantry, and Bath Transformed

When this Arlington family first reached out to Custom Contracting, they had a clear goal: transform a dated, closed-in kitchen into a bright, functional space that worked the way their family actually lives. What emerged was something even better — a home reimagining that touched the kitchen, pantry, bathrooms, laundry, and bar area, all working together in a way that feels completely intentional.

A Kitchen Built for Real Life

The original kitchen was cramped, dark, and disconnected from the rest of the home. Today, it’s the heart of the house.

Bill Farnsworth worked closely with the homeowners on the floor plan — no small feat on a challenging lot — to open up the space and create the kind of kitchen their family had always wanted. A generous island with seating anchors the room, topped with quartz countertops and fitted with a brass prep sink. Warm wood Bertch cabinetry on the island contrasts beautifully with the crisp white perimeter cabinets, while brass pendant lights and fixtures bring warmth and cohesion throughout.

The old track lighting is gone. In its place, a kitchen that’s as beautiful as it is functional.

A Pantry That Looks Like It Was Always There

One of the most talked-about features of the project is the pantry — and it almost looked very different.

Originally planned as simple open shelving, the space was reimagined on site when lead carpenter Mike Chiarenza saw an opportunity. Working collaboratively with the homeowner, he incorporated an existing hutch into the design, adding arched details and sage-painted cabinetry that give the pantry the feel of a room that has been part of the home for generations.

“We collaborated on the pantry,” the homeowner shared. “Mike was able to build in a hutch that we already had — it looks like it was always here. A rustic, old-fashioned pantry.”

That kind of on-the-ground problem solving — and the willingness to take the time to get it right — is exactly what sets a great renovation apart from a good one.

A Bathroom Designed with Personality

The full bathroom renovation brought the same thoughtful design approach to a smaller canvas. A deep green vanity with brass hardware and a round black-framed mirror gives the space a confident, curated feel. Gold sconce lighting, a marble-top counter, and classic fixtures complete a room that is both stylish and timeless.

The Result

From the first conversation about the floor plan to the final details executed by Mike and Tom on site, this Arlington project is a testament to what’s possible when careful planning meets skilled craftsmanship.

“High quality work,” the homeowner said. “We love the project.”
